Rosendo Mateu: The Mastery of Perfumery

Rosendo Mateu is the living image of a self-made man, something that is reflected in his work and, especially, in the perfectionism that permeates each of his creations. For 45 years, Mateu was one of the specialists at Puig, one of the most prestigious perfumery firms in the world. During that time, he developed dozens of fragrances bearing his personal signature, combining commercial appeal with the creation of unique products.

After collaborating with some of the most important international brands, Mateu dedicated part of his time to more ambitious projects, such as the development of personalized perfumes. These projects led him to study diverse topics such as Greek civilization, the Roman Empire, or the paintings of Francis Bacon. With the latter, Mateu faced one of the greatest challenges for any fragrance expert: designing a fragrance for an exhibition dedicated to the English painter. He spent months studying the smell of the paintings, the canvases, the humidity levels, and even the era in which Bacon lived and worked. This effort gives an idea of the level of involvement this master has with each of his projects.

Recognized as a "Maître Parfumeur" since 2010, one of the few in Europe, in 2017 Mateu faced a new challenge: the creation of five fragrances under his own brand. After three years of working together with his son Joan, Rosendo Mateu finally showed the world why he is considered one of the best perfumers.
